How Boko Haram Sent 14 Female Suicide Bombers To Carry Out Coordinated Attacks On Maiduguri – Army

At least 25 persons were killed and 85 injured when 14 female suicide bombers descended on Borno State on Sunday, the Nigerian Army has said.

Maj.-Gen. Yushau Abubakar, the Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, said during a press briefing in Mai‎duguri, the state capital on Monday that the suicide bombers blew themselves into bits as they attempted to invade the city.

“The 14 female suicide bombers, who were between the ages of 12 and 18, attempted to entered Maiduguri with the intent to cause mayhem, confusion, and panic”, said Mr. Abubakar, who was represented by the GOC, 7 Division, Major-General Lamidi Adeosun.

Mr. Abubakar said the girls, who planned to carry out coordinated suicide missions through Asmari, Damboa checkpoint, Ali Dawari, Molai Kura, Baderi, and Jumari villages, were intercepted by soldiers on patrol.

Three of the terrorists, according to the commander of the operation lafiya dole, detonated their Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) while seven others were shot dead by soldiers.

One of the bombers was however arrested, while three others escaped.

“I believe this development has averted what would have been a major disaster if they had gained entrance into Maiduguri”, Mr. Abubakar said.

“One of the girls went into a nearby house and requested for water to perform ablution but instead prepared herself and came to a nearby mosque, killing herself and one other person while 13 others sustained injuries”.

On a sad note, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar said four soldiers lost their lives recently when the insurgents ambushed Nigerian troops in Mairaria village on the Maiduguri and Firgi road.

Fourteen insurgents, he said, also died in the ensuing gun battle.

The army general noted that the terrorists had now resorted to attacking “soft targets” and ‎laying ambush for soldiers due to their weakened strength.

Also‎ speaking to journalists on Monday, in Maiduguri, the Borno State Police Command confirmed the death of scores of people after a suspected bomb blast near a mosque in Silimanti on the outskirt of Maiduguri.

Victor Isuku, the Police Public Relations Officer, gave the confirmation while speaking with journalists in Maiduguri.

“I can confirm to you that the incident happened in the early hours of Monday”, Mr. Isuku said.

“But I cannot give you the casualty figures as aid workers are still counting”.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, yesterday, stated that the Special Intervention Fuel Supply set up by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, is working tirelessly to eradicate the biting fuel scarcity across the country by sustaining the truck-out of petrol products to the nooks and crannies of the country.

For over two months, Nigerians have endured excruciating scarcity of petrol products with long and endless queues resurfacing in many filling stations across the country.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the NNPC noted that with relative product stability in some major cities like Abuja, Kano and Lagos, the SIFS is trucking-out large volumes of petrol to the hinterlands and deep country side, where product distribution remains a challenge.

Police men who drove one way and killed UNIPORT student have been arrested

The police officers who took one way and knocked down a University of Port Harcourt Mechanical Engineering student Edah Oghenekevwe Richard (Read story here), have been identified and arrested by the Rivers state Police command. The deceased was on his way back from Church and standing along Assemblies of God Church junction in Alakahia, PH, when he was hit by the Police Van. The state police command is conducting further investigation into the matter and if the officers are found guilty, they will be taken to court.

On how they met:

Yes, I have said it before and it’s still the same. Hmmm… how do I call it? It’s just a divine arrangement. It’s a long story but anyway we met and the only surprising thing there was that, it was the day I met him that he proposed to me.

Yes, but really I was skeptical because it was strange, so, I just want to thank God that it really worked out. Like I said earlier, we have been together for the past 25 years and it’s working out fine.

Hmmm… I don’t know. I wouldn’t know because no woman would love to discuss her husband to that level, but I think he’s a good man.

When you were getting mar­ried, was he deep in religion like now?

Yes, I met him as a prophet. I told you I don’t want to go into details but I actu­ally went to his place.

Some people don’t under­stand your husband, they say he’s a mysterious man with mysterious powers, when you read such stories, how do you react?

I know it’s not true. They don’t know him, he’s not a strange man, he’s not a mysterious man; he’s just dedicated to his work. He is a man who has the fear of God in him, that is it. Those stories don’t move me at all because they don’t seem to understand him.

Mama, do you feel fulfilled marrying a prophet and hav­ing three beautiful, intelli­gent children, all girls?

Yes, I feel fulfilled. I don’t even know I don’t have any son because I have lots of boys around me. In this part of the world, most especially, from where I am from, people cherish male children, but my husband didn’t give me any reason to think of that.

You mean you are not under pressure from him or his fam­ily to have male children?

Not at all! I believe when you make that a problem, you begin to see it as a problem before you. But it’s not a prob­lem to me at all.

Andres Moreno, World’s Fattest Man Dies At 38.

The world’s fattest man, Andres Moreno, has died at age 38. Moreno, who weighed 980lbs at his heaviest, died yesterday morning  after being rushed to hospital from his home in Ciudad Obregón in Sonora, Mexico.

He suffered a fatal heart attack in the ambulance and could not be revived.

His publicist, Carmen Palacios said: “Andres died at 8.30am on Christmas Day in an ambulance from a heart attack as he was taken from his house to San Jose Hospital.”

Christmas wildfire claims more than 100 homes.

A bushfire which flared on Christmas Day has destroyed more than 100 homes in southern Australia, officials said Saturday, as they warned the losses could have been worse.

FG set to reduce petrol price from January 1st.

The Federal Government would on January 1, 2016 reduce the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, to N85 per litre.

fuel-pumpThe Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, who broke the news to journalists,during a tour of the Port Harcourt refinery on Christmas Day said that the Federal government is working to reduce the pump price of petrol to about 85 or 86 naira per litre by Jan 1st.

He said efforts were on to get the refinery to achieve 60 percent production capacity and to supply about 11 million liters of petrol daily.

“If you look at the new PPPRA template that we developed and which I just signed off two days ago, when it is announced you will find out that for now ,and I use the emphatic word of the President for now, the price of the refined product will actually be lower than 87 naira, It will be 85. We will probably announce that in January if the prices hold.

“Like I said, we have done a modulation calculation and it is showing us below N87. I imagine that if PPPRA publishes it today, it will become effective immediately. But the 1st of January that is when we are looking at.”

“What that does for you is that its modulating. If it goes up you move up, if it comes down you come down. So we take away the fact of having to go find funds to pay for these subsidies that we cannot afford.

“More importantly we try to be as close to the pump price that we have now as possible,” he said.
