No direction for PMB Government till 2016 – Fashola.

Former Lagos State Governor and Minister designate Raji Babatunde Fashola has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has no economic direction currently, and this will not change till the President gets approval from the legislature on the 2016 budget.

Fashola stated this in an interview and maintained that Nigerians are in the dark, thereby slowing the pace of accelerated development promised by the present administration.

Earlier, the Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State, CSCEO, berated the Buhari-led Federal Government and said the administration had no economic blueprint for the country.

According to them “Presently, Nigeria’s economy is nothing to write home about, because the present administration of Buhari does not give any meaningful economic direction to the nation.

“Nigerian people believed that immediately after Buhari was sworn-in, as elected President and Commander –in- Chief of Armed Forces on May 29th, 2015, action would commence on redirection of the nation’s economy but till the present moment, President Buhari is looking for external help to fix the Nigeria degenerating economy.’’
The group added that for Buhari to succeed in the war against corruption, he should start from “cleansing his own dirtiness because a leader should lead by a good example.

“How can somebody that calls himself a man of integrity not ask where his party men source for funds to sponsor his electioneering campaign?”
Fashola remarked “My sense is that people are waiting to get a clear direction. I am optimistic that the president will begin to show results.

“The time frame is the challenge: how much more time will Nigerians afford him? Having been a governor before, I know that the first 6-to-9 months are defining.
“At the level of national government, which is a behemoth, it takes time to get a grip on it. The president has picked people to assist him, some of whose experience and reputations are quite inspiring.

“I think when the budget comes out it will signify a clear direction about what the government will do, where it will be investing energy and resources. I think people will respond accordingly’’

Last month, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP attacked Buhari for what they termed economic cluelessness.

“Recall that we have severally in the past, drawn attention to official reports showing that the unemployment situation in the country as well as inflation rate are growing at frightening dimensions, not to talk of the continued decline in domestic and direct foreign investments, all due to uncertainty created by the lack of economic direction of APC-led administration.
“The situation has become even of utmost concern following the failure of this administration to articulate any interventionist policy at this critical moment, when credible global economic monitors have continued to predict that oil price may fall as low as $20 per barrel,’’ the party said.
