A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), PDP Youth Frontier yesterday kicked against federal government’s plan to increase electricity tariff stressing that the move is anti-people and illogical.
A statement signed by the National Coordinator of PDP Youth Frontier, Mr. Usman Okai Austin, said plans to increase electricity tariff in the has deepen the hardship faced by Nigerians while ascribing it to poor and bad economic policies by the APC led government.
We advised that the Buhari led government should ensure an improvement in electricity supply first as increase in tariff, establishment of various taxes without justification among others will only compound the sufferings of Nigerians. He ended
Recall that the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday, justified the 45 percent increment in electricity tariff which takes effect from this month stressing that the action remained the only way to enhance stable power supply in the country.
“explained to that the increment in cost of procuring raw materials to generate electricity was part of the reasons for increasing the tariff and that the best way to sustain the current stable power supply in the country.” Fashola stated
